That's where we come in. At Motide, we design and build custom furniture for homes across New Zealand – from a single statement piece to a complete fitout. Every piece is made by hand in our Raglan workshop, using FSC-certified plywood and solid hardwoods.
What We Make
Bookshelves & Built-In Storage
A well-designed bookshelf transforms a room. We craft custom bookshelves and built-in storage units that fit your space exactly – whether it's a floor-to-ceiling library wall, a pegboard-door cabinet for vintage treasures, or open shelving to display your collection. Made from high-quality plywood and finished with OSMO Polyx oil for warmth and durability.
Dining Tables
The dining table is the heart of a home – where family gathers, where guests linger, where everyday life happens. We design custom oak, rimu and plywood dining tables that suit your space and style, from sleek modern minimalism to warm farmhouse character. Bench seating, contrasting materials and custom finishes are all part of the conversation.
Coffee Tables & Side Tables
A great coffee table ties a living room together. We craft one-of-a-kind coffee tables in solid timber (NZ Kauri, Rimu) or plywood (Birch, Walnut, Meranti, Gaboon) – round, rectangular, asymmetrical. Whatever shape works for your space.
Desks & Workspaces
With more people working from home, a beautiful desk has become a daily companion. We build plywood and hardwood desks that sit comfortably in a living space, not in a sterile office.
Plant Stands & Smaller Pieces
Sometimes the best pieces are the smaller ones. Custom timber plant stands, lampshades, side tables – often crafted from beautiful offcuts of hardwood and reclaimed timber from our other projects. Every one is genuinely one of a kind.
Wardrobes & Bedroom Furniture
Custom wardrobes, bedside tables and chests of drawers, designed to fit your room and your life. Whether it's a built-in wardrobe for an awkward alcove or a freestanding statement piece.
The Materials We Work With
We work primarily with two material families:
FSC-certified Plywood – Birch, Walnut, Meranti, Gaboon and laminated plywood in a range of colours. Our most popular choice for its strength, versatility and clean modern aesthetic.
Solid NZ & European Hardwoods – NZ Kauri, Rimu, Oak, Blackwood, Beech, Ash. For when you want the warmth and patina of solid timber, with grain that tells a story.
All finishes are chosen for low toxicity and longevity – natural OSMO oils, custom Resene paints, water-based stains. No formaldehyde, no shortcuts.

2. Design — We develop sketches and drawings, propose materials, and refine until the piece feels exactly right.
3. Build — Everything is handcrafted in our Raglan workshop using traditional techniques.
